Cruiser Galveston Withdrawn From Haiti Waters

Washington December 16 The cruiser Galveston ordered to Haiti at the outbreak of the disturbance is to be withdrawn from Haitian waters tomorrow. Brig Gen John H Russell American high commissioner in Haiti reports the situation is quiet and requests the Galveston now at Port au Prince be sent this afternoon to Gonaives and returned to regular duty from that port tomorrow.

Explosion Aboard Italian Steamer Zenico Kills Chief Engineer

Lisbon reports an explosion aboard the Italian steamship Zenico off the Cape Verde Islands last night killed the chief engineer and threw another crewman into the sea. The vessel's machinery was wrecked and it was badly crippled. Wireless messages say the Zenico would try to reach Lisbon as rescue ships French Vrixis and British Otranto head to assist.

Headmaster Clarence C. Sanborn of Portsmouth High School gave a vivid talk to the Roosevelt Club Saturday night. He recounted a tale of two shipwrecked American sailors whose answer to the consul was to be shipped over. He likened their resilience to the boys' efforts and urged them to seek aid and answer with Ship me over in times of difficulty. Daddy Oldfield and Mr. Volz spoke, with President Bowell presiding.

Seizure Totals Rise As 70 More Motor Cases Found

Rye Beach coast guards widened the search for liquor stock hidden on ledges and hauled up seventy more cases. This brings the total seized by the Board since Wednesday to 390 cases of various kinds. The latest batch was delivered to the Customs House basement this forenoon.

Trans Atlantic Plane Reported Over Porto Paya

A French ministry report described a sighting of a Trans Atlantic plane over Porto Paya Cape Verde Islands after 7 30 this morning Greenwich time. The airmen had flown about 2060 miles in 18 hours at an average speed over 100 mph. If kept up they would reach Montevideo tomorrow afternoon.
