Bridge to reopen this afternoon after electrical issues

Department of Transportation officials expect the Sarah Mildred Long Bridge to reopen around noon for vehicular traffic after two months of electrical problems. Crews from Maine and New Hampshire tested all day Thursday, with ongoing electrical issues guiding temporary procedures and alternating lane traffic in the coming weeks.

Hotel foe makes a comeback in zoning case

In Rockingham Superior Court Judge Edward J. Fitzgerald III reversed a prior dismissal of Ocean Properties Nine Seventy Six Realty Trust from a lawsuit challenging four August zoning amendments. HarborCorp LLC and Westin project interests say a clerical error affected the dismissal ruling. Ocean Properties owns local Marriott hotels.

Bickford's to end 24 hour shift at Portsmouth location

Patricia Jackson and six other full time workers lost their jobs as Bickford's in Portsmouth halted the graveyard shift effective immediately. Linda Milley cited economic reasons and a history of closing 24 hour locations, noting only a few remain.

Felon misses sentencing after hitting officer with car

Brentwood report states Daniel Bent, convicted in October of one second degree assault and three reckless conduct felonies, failed to appear for his 9am sentencing in Rockingham Superior Court. Bent, last known in Walpole, Mass., allegedly struck Officer Timothy Copeland in Route 101 breakdown lane. Coffey refused bail and Bent’s mother said he was hospitalized in Brookline, Mass.

Holiday decor winners chosen in Portsmouth contest

Citywide Neighborhood Annual Holiday House Decorating Contest announced winners. First prize went to 84 Blue Heron Drive Osprey Landing with Santa on the roof. Second prize to 163 Rockingham Ave Frank Jones and third to 1180 Odiorne Point Road Tucker's Cove. Local businesses donated prizes.
