A 50 year old author Marian Bachrach refused to say if she is or has been a Communist or knows witnesses at House Un American Activities hearings. She identified as a writer for the Communist Party national office and asserted she is a party member, prompting a closed session discussion by investigators.
Ice in the carburetor today forced ten endurance fliers after 568 hours 47 minutes in the air. Dick Riedel and Bill Barris of Pullerton, who have been aloft since November 20, reported ice formed 820 feet and they deemed it unsafe to continue.
In New York on December 14, members of the American Federation of Musicians will renew a 1143 month recording ban as a five year contract with major record companies is signed. The government approves a $25,000 yearly welfare fund trustee and royalties finance free public concerts and union welfare. Copyright royalties on records fund the drive and aid jobless musicians.

A 19 year old Portsmouth youth was refused entry to the local police department after the police commission ruled he is not of legal age. William J Lonergan sought to have his application filed. The commission named Daniel K Hennessey and Morris H Berry as special police officers and asked the city marshal to review two more applications.
A federal judge's report ties Herminio Fassio, chief of Peron’s police bodyguard, to a $92,000 bribe for backing a failed Italian Argentine aluminum factory deal. The sum is the largest among 14 arrested in the case and Fassio recently received the No. 1 Peronista loyalty medal.
A subterranean tar well at the Portland Gas Light waterfront plant exploded injuring Sumner Dyer aged 40 of Portland and Theodore Kelly aged 42 of Westbrook. Both were hospitalized as debris scattered across the yard and vehicles were damaged. The well had not operated for a decade and was surrounded by reinforced concrete.
