New Hampton Bridge Opens Thursday In New Hampshire
The rickety mile long toll bridge over Hampton harbor linking Hampton and Seabrook will be replaced by a modern steel concrete span. The new bridge, about 3,700 feet shorter and wider, opens at 2 pm with no ceremonies. It has two lanes and a five foot ocean side walkway, allowing harbor traffic with a bascule-like feature. Total cost about 1.188 million, federal funds covering most of the 1.46 million. Construction began 1947 by B Stewart and Sons. Phoenix Bridge Corp built the approaches. tolls set at 15 cents.
