European capitals buzzed over disarmament as talks on League of Nations reform shaped daily agendas in London Berlin and Paris. Voting Today for City Officials in Portsmouth

Portsmouth voters went to the polls this morning and afternoon to cast ballots for city officials. By noon 2 730 votes had been tallied, about 400 more than at the same time last year. Ward by ward tallies and lists of ward officers, inspectors, and on duty officers are provided, showing varying turnout across wards and noting a lack of police officers in the municipal court ward.

Tropical Isle Proves a Bright Portsmouth Show

An appreciative audience enjoyed the musical revue Tropical Isle staged at the Portsmouth Theatre by St John’s Men’s Club. Local and regional artists from Newburyport Amesbury Dover Somersworth and others performed under Thomas F. Mullen with Pirates Orchestra led by Donald Vaughn. The program featured 30 numbers from lively chorus to solo performances including Norman M. Leavitt John Regan and Lillian Labonte among others with eye catching staging and dances throughout the two acts.

Indicted driver in Somerville fire truck tragedy

Jeremiah Sullivan, driver of a Somerville fire truck, was indicted by the Middlesex county Grand Jury on four counts. Three indictments charge manslaughter in the deaths of Prof. Justin O Wellman, his daughter Mrs Elean or Lord, and her four year old daughter Virginia. The fourth indicts him with operating a motor vehicle so as to endanger life.

282 In Favor Of Extra Session

Manchester reports Chairman John J Kearns of the Manchester delegation in the General Court completed a poll on a special session to enact a new liquor law. Of 419 house members, 85 responded with 282 in favor and 52 opposed. Ten senators supported the session.

Stock Market Maintains firm tone amid modest gains

In New York at 1 13 p m stocks showed dull activity with sporadic profit taking yet a steady to firm tone across speculative groups. U S Steel preferred rose a point while common edged higher with Bethlehem advancing fractionally. Small gains appeared for Chrysler American Telephone Deere Standard Oldt N J and Calif Louisville & Nashville Consolidated Gas Postal Telegraph pref International Telephone and Public Service of New Jersey Armour preferred fell about 3 points and U S Smelting MacIntire and U S Industrial Alcohol lost about half a point each. Union Pacific Santa Fe and New York Central eased.

Missing Chief Witness in Factor Kidnap Case

Chicago dispatch reports Helen Perry twenty, a principal state witness in the Touhy gang kidnapping trial of John Factor, is missing. The Tribune cites an intensive search. Perry is said to have been with the kidnappers during the holdout last summer and was to identify the defendants.

State Grange in Annual Session Attacks Relief System

Manchester Dec 12 John A Hammond master of New Hampshire State Grange assails the relief system as unsound and costly, warns it will foster thrift and industry decline and lead to dole. He criticizes liquor and gambling laws as backward, while 600 grangers hear Rev. Edwin Cooke endorse old penalties as needed to restore order amid economic muddle.

Arraigned in Kittery Court for Domestic Assault

Richard N Carpenter age 23 of Manson Road North Kittery was arrested Sunday afternoon by Deputy Sheriff Natt R Hubbard and Constable Harold P Grace for alleged assault on his wife Blanche Reamy Carpenter. He pleaded guilty in Kittery municipal court before Judge Justin Henry Shaw and received a six month suspended sentence, ordered to pay costs, and report monthly to the County Probation Officer. The court also ordered sureties of $200 to keep the peace for one year.
