Government control of the railroad was extended to January 1, 194 by order of Director General McAdoo who urged Congress to keep the railroad under government management to depoliticize the issue and allow completion of improvements. He claimed the move would ensure stable operation and progress.
Naver reports Dover health department announces forenoon measures to prevent an influenza epidemic. An estimated 16 to 20 cases exist in Dover. Doctors say the present strain is milder than past outbreaks, while nurses and volunteers attend to the situation. The Dover Point volunteer fire department held its annual banquet with 60 guests, socializing earlier in the evening. A letter from a Dover Point native in France describes recent battles, with a neighbor reporting service with the 141st Field Artillery and later the 76th division. Community meetings at the Sawyer Keller corps and Granite State Battery association discussed upcoming events in January.
Granville holline continues as the town bells toll thrice daily with the 3 o clock signal. Earl A Barrett resumes duties at the academy after Harvard discharge. The Ponalssanes club plans its first meeting next Monday at the Baker residence. Maurice T. Dwyer has returned from Norfolk with an honorable army discharge. The first Merrill lecture of winter will be held at the town hall.
Naval radio school at Cambridge to discharge eighty sailors, with twenty percent kept for active duty. Most men without dependents will be released, while those with dependents or who must return to civilian work may stay for further training. Music and other duties may be reassigned as needed.

Consideration was postponed until tomorrow at Senator Norris of Nebraska’s request.
Kittery Point December notices report Mr and Mrs Ganor Mystrum returning to White Bear Minnesota. Obituary records Frank Seward of Rockport Maine, aged 76, died at home after a two week illness. He leaves a wife and several brothers including Harry Fronen of Pennsylvania visiting.
Washington December 12 The War Department announced extensions of units designated by General Pershing for early return home. The list includes meteorological section signaling corps batteries A C D E and FP Headquarters and supply companies and Headquarters of the 6th regiment pioneer infantry colored 172nd and 174th aero squadrons 161st and 316th trench mortar batteries.
The Herald notes an upcoming Red Cross membership drive in Duaingas district. Men and women not yet members are urged to join this important organization, with current members encouraged to renew and support the cause during the campaign.
