New York December 11 AP stock market leaders slipped fractions near 2 points as feeble buying support checked the decline. About 3,000 miles of khaki are being woven in England to clothe new soldiers.
Britain reports the loss of a minesweeper and five merchant ships as 100 days into the war sees British troops on the western front. The minesweeper Ray of Hope sank after hitting a mine with four crew killed and three rescued. Willowpool also sank, with 36 saved. Four other merchants are presumed lost. The tonnages of some ships were not disclosed. The king visited frontline observation posts as talks circulated about easing wartime export bans to aid Finland.
Representative Harry H K Hier 47 of Barnstead died at Margaret Pillsbury Hospital Concord after his car collided with a Suncook Valley Railroad passenger train near Pittsfield station. Passenger Carl Hanson 11 also of Barnstead died en route to the hospital. Hier, a state highway engineer, was en route to his Waylo road construction project with pay envelopes for workers. Train crew cited locomotive impact. investigators continued.

Lancaster reports a fire at the home of Mrs. Russell P. Whyte and her two and a half year old son, both killed by smoke and possible gas inhalation after an explosion. The couple's seven year old daughter was unharmed, saved by the grandfather, as the blaze rapidly consumed the residence. The husband and eldest daughter were away at a movie when the tragedy occurred. neighbors cited a gas-fed fire.
