Reports from Canton say Chang Fak Wei’s forces closed on the city after an overnight breakthrough along a widening front. Artillerywas heard as rumors swirled of imminent fall while Nationalists rushed reinforcements and prepared to defend the eastern approaches.
Associated Press reports Charles and Napoleon Lafrenier were shot dead by Russell Cutler while hunting lynx near Botton Vermont. Cutler, 27, claimed the deaths were accidental and he was jailed in Burlington. Deputies found the brothers’ bodies after Cutler said he had killed a man while hunting.
Crystal Temple Pythian Sisters will observe its twenty first anniversary on Wednesday evening at Pythian hall with guests from Exeter Newmarket and North Hampton. A supper at six thirty, a short business session, and an entertainment follow the regular meeting of the order.

The Trimpent Oil Company plant in Everett, Massachusetts, suffered a fatal explosion and fire. Edward L. Blodgett, 6th birthday celebrant and former boxing champion, died at Whidden Memorial Hospital along with another two workers. several others remained in critical condition.
The marriage of Miss Doris Lillian Bates to George Frances Loney was held last month in Manila Philippine Islands. Mrs. Loney is the daughter of Mrs. Mary Bates and the late George B. Bates of 136 State Street. Friends here extend best wishes for their future happiness.
Trading opened irregularly lower then rallied as U S Steel led a fluctuating session. Gains outpaced losses as rail shares rose with Pittsburgh and West Virginia up five, New York Central and Union Pacific higher, and utilities firms drawing demand.
Exeter obituary notes the death of Harl C. Reed, 32, longtime station agent for the BL and MD JR. He arrived in Exeter six years ago from Dover and at one time served as traveling agent and railroad official.
A Bronx New York fire at the Pathe Motion Picture Exchange on Park Avenue and 134th Street killed nine people and trapped others as flames cut escape routes. About 75 people were in the brick building when the blaze started, with several cast and crew members taking cover as hoses were misused and alarms raised. Identified dead include Herald Bishop, Al Kramer, Bob Mossman, and Jack Quinn.
Detroit, Dec 10 A 20 year old youth Benny Maslak confessed to participating in five robberies after his mother urged him to tell. Maslak and another man admitted taking a sedan and a watch from a restaurant on Dec 3 and a shoe store hold up the next night. Maslak said he had been aided by a factory, and his gambling-house earnings were split, with his mother prompting him to speak to the prosecutor.
The John Langdon Club of the North Church started its winter season with a Monday evening talk by Howard A. Crossman of Hampton Walla on A Around the World. He shared travel pictures from Hampton Beach and other spots, followed by a roast beef supper directed by Ben Tate to a large pleased crowd.
