Fall of Canton Near As Rebels Press Open Door

Reports from Canton say Chang Fak Wei’s forces closed on the city after an overnight breakthrough along a widening front. Artillerywas heard as rumors swirled of imminent fall while Nationalists rushed reinforcements and prepared to defend the eastern approaches.

Brothers killed while hunting in Vermont woods

Associated Press reports Charles and Napoleon Lafrenier were shot dead by Russell Cutler while hunting lynx near Botton Vermont. Cutler, 27, claimed the deaths were accidental and he was jailed in Burlington. Deputies found the brothers’ bodies after Cutler said he had killed a man while hunting.

Pythian Sisters Celebrate Twenty-First Anniversary

City Balloting Under Way In Municipal Election

Early voting reports at noon show turnout near average for past years. Polls opened at 6 am with large early participation and steady balloting across wards. Three Die From Explosion At Everett Oil Plant

The Trimpent Oil Company plant in Everett, Massachusetts, suffered a fatal explosion and fire. Edward L. Blodgett, 6th birthday celebrant and former boxing champion, died at Whidden Memorial Hospital along with another two workers. several others remained in critical condition.

Blaze Sweeps Through Motion Picture Studio

A Bronx New York fire at the Pathe Motion Picture Exchange on Park Avenue and 134th Street killed nine people and trapped others as flames cut escape routes. About 75 people were in the brick building when the blaze started, with several cast and crew members taking cover as hoses were misused and alarms raised. Identified dead include Herald Bishop, Al Kramer, Bob Mossman, and Jack Quinn.

Mother moves youth to confess to banditry in Detroit

Detroit, Dec 10 A 20 year old youth Benny Maslak confessed to participating in five robberies after his mother urged him to tell. Maslak and another man admitted taking a sedan and a watch from a restaurant on Dec 3 and a shoe store hold up the next night. Maslak said he had been aided by a factory, and his gambling-house earnings were split, with his mother prompting him to speak to the prosecutor.

John Langdon Club Opens Winter Season With Trip Pictures
