John J Buckley 54 leather worker at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard died at Harbor Hospital York after a long illness. Born January 7 1903 he was a shipyard employee for over 40 years and retired three years ago due to disability. A Portsmouth High School graduate class of 1924 he served in the U S Army Air Corps in World War II and belonged to Portsmouth Council Knights of Columbus and Frank E Booms American Legion Post. Survived by three sisters Mrs Grey Baird Mrs Perley Wiseman and Mrs Mary G Croseman.

Hungarian airlift to Camp Kilmer from Munich begins

Military transports plan to fly from Munich to Camp Kilmer New Jersey starting Tuesday to move thousands of Hungarians. The operation aims to repatriate about 9 750 people, with three U S transports and Bremerhaven sailings on December 20. The Intergovernmental Committee for European Migration has shipped roughly 2 500 to the United States by chartered planes and 4 000 more by the same means.

The University of New Hampshire government department head spoke on the Middle East at a New Hampshire Section American Institute of Electrical Engineers gathering in Concord. Delegates approved a chairman candidate at the convention while Catalfo announced he would act as session chairman. A letter from Prof. Herbert Hill of Hanover, permanent chair for the September session, recognizing Catalla as chairman and inviting him to preside was received.

Rye Station Names Airman of Month

Ayesalo Donald MacDonald of the Rye Air Station squadron dispensary was chosen November’s airman of the month at a Unit Fund Council meeting. He received a three day pass and a $25 check. A Quincy Massachusetts native, MacDonald has served since 1959 with posted duties in England Ireland Scotland North Africa Sicily Italy Holland France Germany and Korea. He is married with a three year old son and resides in South Wesmouth Massachusetts.

NATO Meeting Urges Solidarity and Economic Aid

Derwent reports a successful cancer operation last month and notes the urgency to rebuild Western alliance solidarity and Europe’s economic strength to sustain military power. He says U S aid to European allies, both economic and burden sharing on armament, must be discussed with congressional leaders in White House conferences around Feb 31 and Jan 1. Missing Boy in New Hampshire Search Intensifies

In southwestern New Hampshire a five square mile search for Barton continues after his family reports him missing since late morning. Neighbors and hunters roam a swampy terrain near Cummings Pond while authorities fear a hunter may have shot the boy by accident as deer season runs. George and Frank Patria’s siblings, ages five and younger, were playing nearby before lunch.

Israel Style Show At Temple Tuesday

The Portsmouth Hadassah chapter presents an Israel fashion show titled Wedding of East and West Old and New at Temple Israel vestry on Tuesday at 7:80. Madassah fashions from Israel are designed by dressmaking students of Alice L. Seligsberg Vocational School in Jerusalem. The garments blend ancient Oriental motifs with modern styling and reflect immigrant influences from Arab and Oriental lands. Public is invited.

Wells area raises funds for muscular dystrophy drive

A total of 169.50 was collected in Wells by the Wells Corner Hose Company and the Wells Dear Fire Department for the muscular dystrophy fund. The annual drive was organized by Wells Gremen with Ernest Crowley and Paul Bridges leading. A Christmas party is planned for December 14 at the Masonic Hall in Wells with Priscilla Chapter CBS and the Past Matrons Association arranging fees and gift exchanges. Refreshments will be provided by local residents. The Elbridge and Leroy Hanson American Legion Post will meet Monday at 8 pm at the Wells region home. The Lions Club will meet Tuesday.

Municipal Court fines and guilty pleas show varied offenses

The Municipal Court fined several individuals for driving offenses and traffic violations. Oscar L. Newhom of 19 Iewin St. was fined $50 and license suspended after pleading guilty to careless or negligent operation. Robert E. Community Fire Station Event Announced

A local fire station invites residents to attend a community gathering featuring a guest speaker and a supper.

New Hours Listed At Post Office

Post office announces revised hours at Portsmouth along with temporary extended windows and dates. Clerks will operate three stamp windows from 8 am to 6 pm Monday to Wednesday and December 17 to 19 while windows stay open one hour longer. Additional changes occur on December 13, 14, 20, and 24 with varied start and end times. patrons urged to buy stamps, money orders, and packages early. The Post Office Department offers three free pamphlets on mail preparation at any stamp window.

Hampton Falls pupils at Lincoln Akerman School honor retired superintendent Hoy W. Gillmore with a two act operetta Prince dedicated to his service to education and children.
