A 45 mile gale driven grass fire raced across 10 acres near Spinney road and Middle street early this morning threatening multiple homes. Volunteers aided fire crews with shovels and brooms as flames neared George Trefethen’s residence and the Tafolla Construction Co. garage holding gasoline and oils. The molten cement mold used for Islington street overpass abutments was destroyed, with damage estimated around $1,000. the mold will be rebuilt to protect the fresh cement and allow drying.
