Grange members vote on degrees and donations in Eliot Maine
Arthur Place and Mrs. Alice Leavitt were admitted to receive degrees at a John F. Witt Grange meeting. Members approved a $40 donation to the New England Home for Life Workers and the York County Tuberculosis drive, granted a memorial to Mrs. Anne Zamarehl Woods, and invited Capen Nedick, Kittery and Ogunquit Granges. A Thanksgiving program was led by Mrs. Naris Evans with several members. a quiz won by Samuel Crowell and Mrs. Madeline Huntress. turkey prize went to Mrs. Willis. Alberta Remick won a toe contest. Christmas party planned for Dec 10. visitors from nearby Granges attended. Refreshments served by several members.

Boston Policeman Charged In Fatal Shooting Of Roy Porter
MacDougall a 33 year old off duty Boston policeman was charged with murder after David Porter 16 of North Quincy was shot on a Dorchester street. Porter died from a back wound and spinal damage, during a struggle while an officer questioned him. Porter’s death followed a routine police encounter the night before and occurred as he had earlier been detained for attempting to remove seven Christmas trees from a retail stand. Porter’s father identified the body later that night.
