Ey Associated Press reports a Chilean steamer sank after a collision with the US steamer Ameriet off Pury Patache near Valparaiso. At least 17 people Perished including the captain s son Julie M and several officers engineers and crew members.
Fred Simpson of Concord was elected president and Hon. George A. Wood of Whig City first vice president, both joining the executive committee of the New Hampshire Automobile Association at its annual Concord meeting. Attorney Harsid Hoof was elected to the board of directors.
Two crewmen from the 50 foot yacht Ocora were rescued after a fire and series of blasts near Melbourne Florida. Edward Satinover was saved by a fishing boat while Lesiar Royal reached shore after 24 hours in the water. The vessel was en route from Jacksonville to Miami when an engine backfire ignited oil. Royal described the bid to swim to shore as his partner cried out with cramps and disappeared.
