Thanksgiving gifts praised by Kittery health leaders
KITTERY Directors of the Public Health Association express appreciation to individuals and groups who contributed funds and food for distribution to the needy during Thanksgiving. Esther Linscott, nurse, reported more than $100 in cash and many canned goods from scouts, churches and other groups. Food baskets were prepared and delivered by Mrs. Linscott and Mrs. Frances Orr to numerous families. Donations continue for Christmas gifts and the directors plan to acknowledge all donors.

Markets offer cheese eggs and chicken to help housewives stretch the budget amid shortages. Butter prices vary nationwide while poultry and beef deals appear in many stores. The Southeastern New Hampshire Mineral Club will host a Christmas dinner meeting at the American House in Dover next Wednesday. Reservations with Mrs Stephen Blake the club treasurer at Katherine Point should be made before Saturday. Wilbur S. Burbank will give an illustrated feature on mineral specimens from 30 years with the US Geological Survey. Attendees are asked to bring mineral specimens and a Christmas tree.

San Antonio man freed from car lot office wall
A boy named Wanny Ryder wedged between a wall and a building at a San Antonio used car lot while his father Dan Ryder watched. Firemen cut a hole from inside the office to rescue him. Road widening on Islington Street between Aldrich Head and the overpass was approved, adding five to ten feet.

Renoir Painting Brings 100000 At Auction In New York
A Renoir painting from 1879 sold for 100000 at a Parke-Bernet sale in New York. The work, depicting Pan among spring roses, was acquired by Mrs. Robert Gurney from an anonymous collector’s estate. Proceeds benefit United Jewish Appeal Fresh Air Fund and Colonie de Vacances of Genova.

Robbery suspect promises to return uncashed checks
In New Orleans a man robbed a supermarket of nearly $10,600 in cash and checks. He told the manager he would return checks he could not convert. A postal clerk later reported a money bag found in a mailbox, containing 60 checks. None of the checks were missing, according to assistant manager Miss Kikin.
