U Boat Skipper Granted Holiday Gift From Two Yanks
Otto V. Bulew, former U boat commander, is to receive a Christmas parcel of coffee tobacco and a pipe from Francis Sherlock and Fred Ritzenthaler. The two Americans, aboard the ship West Notes, helped rescue Sherlock who was wounded and aided seven others in the sinking 300 miles off Cape Hatteras on June 1 1942. Sherlock urged Bulew to write his son about the incident, prompting the gift plan.
