Associated Press reports marines and unknown forces seized the Canton customs house as gunboats from foreign powers anchored off Canton and Shancen. Vessels Asheville and Panpang named among American units. action aimed to foil Sun Yat Sen’s planned seizure of customs.
The RN H. Long Motors Co with factories in Franklin and Worcester was petitioned into bankruptcy in the federal district court today. Creditors allege preferential payments include a $500 note to Federal National Bank of Boston and $12,000 notes to Bay State National Bank of Lawrence among others. A separate note mentions draft of a Capitol bill embodying Secretary Mellon’s tax revision proposal as a basis for committee consultation and a forthcoming treasury plan sparking an early session debate.
A large flotilla of 15 ships including two steamers and 12 sailing craft waited outside the 12 mile limit today as Highlands observers reported the largest fleet in months ready for Christmas trade.

Homer Cooke, long regarded as the nation’s oldest practicing lawyer and a friend of Presidents Lincoln and Roosevelt, died at his home in Fankegan on December 5. He practiced in Lakes County circuit court until a week before his death, though nearly 94 years old. Born in Stamford Vermont, he had a storied legal career.
James G. McFare land, Grand Exalted Ruler of the Elks, urged Elks members nationwide to fight Bolshevism amid claims of 104 Bolshevik newspapers in New York reaching five million readers. He described the papers as attacking civilization and mental order.
