Washington dispatch from December 4 notes cloudy conditions with tonight's light snow. Tuesday is expected partly cloudy with a rising temperature, signaling a gradual warmup for the area.
The Portsmouth Lodge of Elks held a Sunday memorial service at the Elks Home to honor members who died in the last year. Rev. Edmund F. P. Quirk spoke, recalling the order’s ideals of charity fidelity and brotherly love and noting the flag and welfare efforts that aid families during holidays.
State and Boston police aided Norwood after strikers and guards clashed injuring eight, one possibly fatally. Attorney Walsh accused tannery owner Aller of importing "truckloads of thugs" from New York. A ten-officer detail and 20 troopers mobilized for order. Former Governor Fuller and Baron von Popper hosted opera singer Jeritza at Little Boar's Head.
Voters in the city caucuses meet this afternoon from 4 to 8 in ward rooms to choose Republican nominees with one contest for the Board of Public Works among Charles A. Allen Edward Downs and William T. Rose. Other Republican candidates run unopposed including Mayor Sylvester Pickering and several council seats. Democratic head Robert Marvin faces no opposition. five candidates vie for four Councilmen-at-large seats. Ward races list Buckley Dondero Knowles Lamb in Ward 1 and others: Fay in Ward 2 Rear don in Ward 3 Call in Ward 4 Gallagher in Ward 5.
The New York stock market moved slowly at 1.16 p m with prices largely stagnant. Canada Dry rose about 2 points while Schenley Am Commercial Alcohol U S Industrial Alcohol and National Distillers edged up fractionally. American Telephone U S Steel Johns Manville Dupont American Can Allied Chemical New York Central Ohio Oil Standard Oil of New Jersey and Consolidated Gas showed gains limited to small amounts.

The Norwegian ship Pluto, seen at this port before, is reported safe after several days trapped in ice in the Great Lakes Canal with 30 carloads of lard bound for Antwerp Rotterdam and Hamburg.
The Eliot Five Co sponsors a charity entertainment at the Grange Hall in town on Wednesday and Thursday evenings to aid needy families. The program features 22 numbers of local talent, including an orchestra vocal solos duets and quartets readings and more.
At the annual meeting the Mechanics Fire Society elected officers: President William J Cater, Clerk Albert R Jenkins, Waldens Fred H Ward, Warden John G Parsons. Robert Marvin hosted the banquet with guests Dr Samuel T Griffin Norman E Rand William Marvin Armoire Loughlin and John Rowe among attendees. Parishioners and relatives attended the funeral service this morning led by Rev T Francis Hogan of St Anne s Manchester. Mary Ballou of Market Street is visiting Boston with friends this week.
A memorial mass is announced for the late Mrs Annie Hogan to be held at St Patrick's Chapel. Attendees are asked to attend in a respectful, prayerful manner.
Washington December 4 Secretary Swanson in his annual report to President Roosevelt urged abandoning the lead in disarmament by example and adopting an orderly program to make the United States Navy second to none. He said the United States alone among treaty signatories had not begun a program to reach full permitted strength. He warned that a weakened navy threatens peace and diplomacy and invites aggression.
Massena fire destroys White's Hotel a three story brick structure and five ground floor shops causing an estimated 125000 in damage. Forty two occupants escaped as flames spread threatening the business district and firemen aided guests from windows. Harry Harding returns after months in Europe.
