Portsmouth Christmas Tree Lighting Kicks Off Holidays

A light rain did not stop Pro Portsmouth from hosting the annual Christmas tree lighting in Market Square. Mayor Steve Marchand flipped the switch to illuminate a 30 foot blue spruce, decorated with ribbon candy ornaments created by Portsmouth Middle School and Little Harbour students. The event, aided by the Portsmouth Public Works Department, included music from local radio stations The Bay and AM 1270, with performances canceled due to rain. The ceremony honored Stuart Shaines as his Congress Street shop closes, marking a moment of Portsmouth pride and seasonal celebration.
