FIRE THREATENS HAMPTON BEACH AS GALE FURTHER DAMAGES HOMES
A strong coast wind fanned a fire along Hampton Beach early this morning, destroying two garages and causing extensive damage to several homes on 11th Street and nearby avenues. Firefighters from Hampton Fire Department and the U S Coast Guard stopped the blaze, logs valued at 10 000 were lost, cause undetermined.

Six balers were rescued and twenty firemen were overcome by smoke as flames swept through the market. Monument Square Fire Threatens Portland Adams Block
Portland firemen battled a stubborn blaze early today in the Adams Block at Federal and Exchange streets owned by Harry Miller. Residents including Mr and Mrs George Bloomindale and their three children and Mrs Abbia Chick were rescued after the fire spread to the second floor. The Pioneer Memorial Floral Co on the first floor suffered about 5000 in damage. The nearby Monument Square Garage was kept from catching fire as crews held the flames to the Adams building. The fire centered around an elevator shaft.
