Hon Charles A Basiel, once governor of New Hampshire, dies suddenly at his home in Laconia at age fifty nine after retiring in his usual health the previous night. A Republican leader, he served as governor from 1895 to 1897 and was known for opposing railroad influence and supporting trolley unions. In later years he directed the Concord and Montreal railroad and led a local bank.
