Fall Migration Begins With Shorebirds Seen In Region
The fall migration has started with field and beach birds appearing in the area. Bartramian sandpipers or upland plover are noted for their whistling flight and feeding in new-mown fields, valued as a table delicacy. A flock of Semi-palmated plovers, recently arrived from the north, will be common on local beaches. Their characteristic black breast band and white forehead mark best identify them.

Willey Commits to Exeter Jail Over Old Taxes
Deerfield man William B E Willey was jailed by Collector William Jones for nonpayment of taxes. Unpaid 1909 tax and costs total $4.00. 1900 tax and interest amount to $7.42, totaling $14.03. Willey, a Civil War veteran, served in the 14th New Hampshire Regiment and the 1st New Hampshire Heavy Artillery. He has a pension.

Building Contracts in New Hampshire Week Totals Rise
Building contracts awarded for new building and engineering ventures in New Hampshire last week total roughly $2,730,000, per F W Dodge. This compares with $1,973,000 a year ago for the same week, bringing year to date contracts to about $90,877,400 against $7,600,000 a year earlier. About twenty percent of awards cover dwellings apartments and hotels while twelve percent go to mills factories and other manufacturing buildings.
