In a highly anticipated bout, Fitzsimons defeated Tom Sharkey in the second round before a large crowd. Yesterday results show St Louis blanked Chicago 7 to 0 in St Louis Philadelphia defeated New York 3 to 1 in Philadelphia Cincinnati toppled Pittsburgh 10 to 0 at Cincinnati Providence beat Brooklyn 7 to 4 in Providence.
New York August 24. The World publishes a cable from Loxpon dated August 23 stating Andrew Carnegie was asked if he planned to stamp the United States for Bryan. Carnegie replies There is no truth in the report.
In Axnon Onto on August 24 the train bearing negro Peck arrived at 3:30 PM. He was quickly taken from the depot to the courthouse where Hoe pleaded guilty before Judge Nye and asked mercy of the court. He received a life imprisonment sentence.
Troops remained stationed at the railroad station and the coat house with no public demonstration or disorder observed. Residents reported calm as authorities maintainedWatch.
Mason August 24 The Japanese freighter Maru from Australia to Manila carrying stores for the American government ran aground on Mindanao island. The ship broke apart but all aboard were saved.
The Delupeons visited St Ar Pingard Park Friday to play the Jitterys. The Jitterys won six to three in an interesting game. A rematch is set for Tabor Day at the park for a purse. Ports mouth delegation returned to the city around 1 AM after the contest.
Wentworth ladies played Rye on Friday afternoon against the Abenaqui club. Although defeated, they enjoyed the day and may host the Abenaquis for a return match at Wentworth in the afternoon.
