In hours the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and its 4800 workers face a BRAC decision. The Commission will meet to vote on closure or realignment of 33 bases, with each base considered individually. Five of nine commissioners must approve to remove Portsmouth from the list.

Man Accused in Knife Threat Denies Methadone Ties
In Portsmouth a 48 year old man, Robert McDaniel of 1502 White Cedar Blvd, is charged with criminal threatening and simple assault after police say he pushed a woman against a car, held a knife to her throat and threatened to kill her during a dispute over methadone. He appeared in Portsmouth District Court amid medical treatment for a nose injury sustained during his arrest.

Fire damages sub shop on Lafayette Road in Hampton
