Moorish troops, regulars, Fascists, and Carlists formed the assault backed by heavy artillery and air power. Officers said the push would pause after advances to consolidate before renewed efforts to capture the capital. Simultaneously, forces from San Sebastian pressed at Hernani and Lasarte near the besieged city.
