Batick of 295 Thornton street, widow of a USS Squalus victim, has been reinstated to her civil service job at Portsmouth naval shipyard by direct order of President Truman and Senator Styles Bridges. Navy officials confirmed the order as the shipyard commando, Captain Ralph S. McDowell, said they would welcome her back. Batick’s five-year terminations and derailed reinstatement dates trace back to 1941 red tape and a 1942 special-employment group. after years of appeals including efforts by J. D. Hartford of The Portsmouth Herald and NH and MA lawmakers, the payroll clerk’s return was secured.

A tag day for the benefit of the Jimmy cancer research fund will be held in Portsmouth Saturday. Chairman Ira A. Brown announced the tags will be sold by local girl scouts under Mrs. James M. Culberson. The tags reproduce a baseball presented by the Boston Braves to Jimmy, a child under treatment at Boston Children's Hospital. Brown noted that three times as many children die of cancer as of infantile paralysis.

Fifty Truck Drivers Fined In Kittery Court Ruling
