Rain delays hay season as Stratham farmers feel impact

Stratham farmer Jonn Law criticizes the rainy summer that halted hay making. He needs 48 hours of sun to mow and bale 70 acres, predicting about 4,000 bales this year instead of 6,000. Nationwide, New Hampshire hay acreage fell from 51,000 to 46,000 acres from 2006 to 2007, producing 105,000 to 85,000 tons. Nearby Kirk Scamman reports his early cut produced a strong year with 15,000 bales annually, awaiting sun for a second crop.
