Wasson Quebec August 14 Smoke and sorrow linger as 600 residents become homeless after a fire that destroyed about 50 houses. Damage could reach 200000 dollars. One woman died of shock. Fire began in a kitchen stove and razed a quarter mile square area. Parish priest Rev Msgr Routhier reported the disaster’s extent. his church was burned though parishioners saved sacred vessels. Firefighters lacked adequate equipment. the river a third of a mile away was the only water source.

British Air Raid Kills 50 Afridi Rebels near Peshawar
Bombing planes from Peshawar killed more than 50 Afridi tribesmen who had retreated south after threatening Peshawar. Daniel J. Dennis, arrested after shooting Motor Cycle Patrolman Henry B. Johnson, confessed to breaking into Colonel Samuel M. Nicholson’s Providence home on January 7 and stealing jewelry valued at 42 000 dollars. Aviator Admits Bombing Coal Field For Hire
Paul Montgomery a 26 year old local aviator admits to being hired by two or three men to pilot a bombing raid on the Providence Kentucky coal field early Monday. He says a man joined him on the trip and was told his family would be killed if he did not proceed. He says he received no money though a promised financial reward was offered.
