Man Jumps To Death On Piscataqua Bridge
A 33 year old man jumped to his death from the Piscataqua River high level bridge at night. Police identified him as Lawrence J. Bobley of 58 Manning Street Portsmouth. Bystander assistance via a skiff failed to save him and he died at Portsmouth Hospital.

Petroleum Price Freeze Extended Into August
Washington AP reports that gas, heating oil, and other petroleum products will stay under strict price controls for an extended period. The current price freeze is extended for an additional week until Aug 19, with a near freeze followed by ceilings. The move includes red, white, and blue stickers showing lawful price and octane at pumps. The Nixon administration also extended FHA authority to Oct 1, raised a mortgage interest ceiling to 7 3/4 percent, and noted rising living costs for retired couples.
