Officers and enlisted men of the 187th Regiment Coast Artillery plan a camp move from Rye to Wolfeboro North Weare and Concord on Thursday in two provisional regiments with a third small unit. The battalion will encamp overnight Friday and disband Saturday to return home.
The North Hampton Women's Club hosted the second Day of Diversion at the Farra zut Hotel in Rye Beach. A street fair with many attractions raised funds for an oxygen tent at Exeter Hospital and a scholarship fund. Highlights included a 3 o'clock doll carriage parade with prizes for prettiest and most original entries, a Colonial Fashion parade, and musical numbers by Beth Richards, Wallace Mann, and Martha Boutwell.
The annual Congregational summer conference opened at the Isles of Shoals with a devotional service led by President Rev. Asa M. Parker. Rev. Philip A. Swartz spoke Saturday morning and preached Sunday morning, with a memorial service honoring Thomas H. Elliott of Lowell, founder of the Isles of Shoals conferences.
Alpha Council No 83 Royal Arcanum and Maj Waldron Council of Dayer held a joint outing at Carkin's Camp on Great Bay. Winners in races included The Potter of Portsmouth and Richard Haigh of Dover in the boys dash, Buddy Emery James Robinson Sonny Dow in children’s dash, Lela Farrington Marion Potter in women’s dash, and Arthur Elis Thomas Webb in men’s dash. Portsmouth council won the rope pull. Dover-Portsmouth tied 5–5 after rain paused a baseball game. Harold Farrington, George Emery, and George Howard led the organizing committee.
North Hampton police investigate a crash on South road where an overturned car pinned passenger Percy Stanley for about 15 minutes. Harold Dewey allegedly lost control after swerving to avoid a machine, the youth suffered a severe scalp wound while another occupant Denby sustained a deep forearm laceration. Stanley was taken to Exeter Hospital for treatment.

The body of George B. Lang, 22, of Raymond, who drowned Saturday afternoon while swimming near Pine Grove cemetery, was recovered Sunday. Neighbors found his clothes. police and fire crews dragged eight feet of water, locating the body 200 yards downstream. Lang, born June 1, 1910 in Deerfield, had lived in Raymond about a decade and worked at the Raymond Shoe Company factory.
In Los Angeles on August 8 AP reports four CIO unions voted to withdraw from Bridges West Coast industrial union council and form the Los Angeles Trade Union Conference to oppose the Bridges Communist Axis. They also announced a boycott of the state CIO convention Bridges scheduled for August 19.
Shanghai August 8 AP Chinese announced their bombing planes attacked and sank three Japanese warships and damaged four more from a fleet of about 90 vessels gathered along the Yangtze river 150 miles below Hankow. They said Japanese riverine advance had been halted by counterattacks and floods with hundreds of Japanese killed on the north bank.
Holland Wilson of Brattleboro Vermont a prominent whaless eel grocer and Mrs Wilson are at Portsmouth hospital with multiple injuries after a car crash on the Lafayette highway near Langdon Creek Saturday They were rushed to hospital and today are reported resting comfortably with expected discharge in a few days
