Two young knights clashed in a spirited contest on State Street near Goodwin Park Tuesday evening. A couple strolling arm in arm discussed the weather and astronomy as a third party intervened to halt the confrontation before it escalated.
A clash near Jenness Beach escalated when two young men fought over a woman. A passerby intervened but the dispute continued with blows. The hermit on the island, claiming it as his, has defended it with knife and gun. The island belongs to the heirs of J. S. H. Frink of Greenland. Murdock reportedly has fired from a barge houseboat and cut wood for fuel, keeping dogs for defense. Mr and Mrs Reich hosted neighborhood children with a straw ride and lunch. Mayor Marvin is named to a state committee attending Bryan’s New York reception.
James Murdock aged hermit of Goat Island near Great Bay reportedly drove off a four person camper party from the city Saturday afternoon by threatening to shoot if they approached the island or encroached further on his territory.

The Weare family held their twelfth annual reunion at Hampton Beach on Tuesday with exercises in Casino Hall. Rev William H Wardwell opened the meeting with Psalm 146 and prayer. Miss Clarissa Weare of Hampton Falls presided as president and gave an address. Officers elected included George N Weare president Fred I Weare vice president Alice M Weare treasurer Everett A Weare secretary Luther Weare trustee and George O Weare trustee. The next reunion was set for Dearborn Wall Seabrook as the location.
The Jones brewery team lists Ed O Keefe Jeremiah Reagan Morris Leary Theodore Eck as anchor while Portsmouth Brewery fields Michael Ahearn Bart Connors Dennis Monihan James Coughlin with a second anchor. Admirers have placed bets and the match Monday night is expected to draw strong interest.
Funeral services for Mrs Taura E Hanscom were held at two o'clock this Wednesday afternoon at her father's home in Eliot with Rev. J Newton Brown officiating. Interment followed in Mount Pleasant cemetery under the direction of Undertaker O W Ham.
The Christ Church picnic planned for today has been postponed due to a scheduling mixup. Officials say the event will be rescheduled for a later date and time, with further details to be announced.
A New Jersey Naval Reserves crew guided the full rigged Civil War gun ship Portsmouth up the Hudson River without a pilot. Capt Edward McClure Peters led eighty marines as the ship reached the Battery after a five and a half hour voyage. Built in 1843 at Kittery, the ship anchored at Wee Hawken Basin near Hoboken after the stunt.
At the resorts of Stampton Beach crowds flourish as August nears a record month for the New Hampshire electric railways and casino proprietor Col Phinney. Temperatures peak at ninety eight, with a hot spell easing at nearby Shoals. The Dover firemen plan another outing, and Sunday trips to The Shoals draw Portsmouth residents.
A state office aspirant touring the North Country in his car believes farmers there disdain flashy steam or gasoline wagons. The supposed rural voters, wary of political autos, are not inclined to show much enthusiasm with loud demonstrations or red fire for his campaign.
