Eight People Die in Roxbury Fire in Boston Tenement
A early morning blaze in a 2 1/2 story wood frame Roxbury tenement killed five children and three women. Maria Gomes, 34, and her five children aged 1 to 8 perished on the second floor. Gomes’ wife and two others were found on the second door. Alberto Carvalho 60 and Catherine Ahern 70 were found in the attic. Gomes survived but was hospitalized in shock. two Andrade children 5 and 3 were injured, parents unharmed.
