Northwest forest fires scorched about 35 000 acres across Idaho and Washington as winds abated. National forests suffered extensive damage to timber and ranch land while crews worked to subdue remaining hotspots with all available resources.
A coast guard patrol boat Lil and schooner Marjorie Parker collided off Harding's Ledge in Boston harbor early today. Seaman William Smith was crushed by the bowsprit and injured. GE Keer ew and others were checked as pumps kept the patrol boat afloat before dry dock.
Samuel Brant and five children from Lawrence Massachusetts were riding in a car that overturned on Maine State Highway near Green Moore's Inn in Kittery this morning. Mrs Brant suffered chest bruises and the mother with children were treated for cuts and bruises by Dr M A Higgins at Joseph Fixmith's home before they returned home by train later the same day.
Six women praised the Dinah Dining spot highlighting central location and easy parking. They praised the food, coffee, and pie quality as comparable to their own, and noted courteous staff and prompt service. The comments suggest it as an ideal place to dine in a hurry.

Fire of undetermined origin destroyed the Central Park Theatre between Dover and Somersworth yesterday afternoon. The loss is estimated at $20,000, with Southen Stock Company belongings and costumes lost. Firefighters from Dover Somersworth and Berwick contained the blaze to the structure and protect adjacent dance hall. The theatre, owned by Massachusetts Worth Eastern Street Railway, will suspend summer shows.
Walter Farmer of Hampton Falls and his wife Gertrude suffer serious injuries after a head-on collision on the Boston Post Road in Wayland Massachusetts. Also injured are Mrs Annie Kail of Lynn Street Chelsea and her son Irving five and daughter Shirley. All are hospitalized in Waltham with suspected skull fractures and other injuries. The Farmer car carried six passengers including Mrs Benjamin Burke returning from duties.
Robbers entered 733 Middle street between 6 and 9 pm by forcing a kitchen window and stole about 175 in jewelry. Items missing include ladies gold Elgin watch, ladies gold wristwatch, gold bracelet, platinum pin with two diamonds and pearl, fountain pen, and cigars. They ignored 900 to 600 in silver and left by the rear door. Burnt matches indicate minimal light. no witnesses described suspects.
Representatives of Portsmouth women’s organizations will serve and prepare the luncheon on August 11 at 12 30. Mrs Elizabeth Garrett is chairing the committee and women are urged to participate. Luncheon serves 408 guests with ample cake.

Moscow dispatch reports a tri-motor all-metal monoplane named Land of Soviet will depart at daybreak for a trans-Siberian, trans-Pacific, trans-American flight to New York. The leg to Omsk covers about 1400 miles. Aviators: Boris Sterligot, navigator pilot Semyon Shestanof, Philip Bolotop, alternate pilot, and A Chestakof mechanics.
Rear Admiral Philip Andrews says the Navy dirigible Los Angeles may pass over southern New Hampshire and parts of New England late in August during a training flight. A prior planned flight over the section was canceled due to stormy weather.
