Victoria reports via the steamer Queen Adelaide that floods in Japan have caused extensive fatalities and destruction. A flooded colliery at Iweekai drowned sixty workers, with numerous other reports of loss of life and property damage across various locations.

Seven people dead and many injured after an explosion on Locust Street last night. More bodies may be found as debris is cleared for hours. A badly burned man was recovered and officials suspect a barrel of gasoline in a nearby grocery store caused the blast.

Washington Aug 6 Admiral Robley D Evans visited the navy department and conferred briefly with Acting Secretary Hackett. The call was a courtesy visit and had no relation to former Senator Chandler's criticism of Evans' book. Evans heads to Fort Monroe tomorrow.
The Machias entered commission at Charlestown navy yard in the afternoon. She will be lowered to the Roada to adjust her compasses and then sail to the upper harbor for sailing orders.
United States collier Brutua arrived from Manila with the body of Captain Allibone who died there. The remains will be sent to Altoona Pennsylvania for burial.
A Morning Leader dispatch from Sofia reports Bulgarian bandits clashing with Turkish troops at Adrianople, resulting in thirty soldiers killed. Bulgarian authorities accuse bandits of starting the engagement and claim it escalated quickly in the August 7 incident.

B W Schurman and Hiram Weaver on a tandem near the Wentworth house hit by a broken front fork. Morton Stover and his brother, held on bonds for October term of superior court for robbing a captain of forty five dollars, again attempted theft. He rifled the captain of a vessel at the North end while the captain’s back was turned, taking a vest from a hook. He was caught about 5:30 p.m. and taken to the police station.
