The Granite State Fire Insurance Company plans a fireproof automobile garage in Portsmouth next year. The project is under consideration after broad support from automobile owners and local interests, signaling a likely construction of a new facility in the city.
There is strong talk of building a modern garage in New England with repair experts and a livery. Waiting rooms for car owners will be provided and the site will be the former stone stable at Fleet and Porter streets. The project may extend onto nearby Porter street properties recently bought by the company.
The old tunnel at Newburyport, built sixty five years ago, will be removed by the Heston and Maine railroad. The line’s improvement required acquiring real estate along the route and tenants had to vacate by August 1. A cut with retaining walls will replace the tunnel.
The street plan crosses the cut by an iron bridge and leaves the balance open. The change requires abandoning Cary's avenue and the Vernon street segment it connects, removing a major obstacle for the Boston and Maine on the Eastern division.
Jacob J. Drew aged 63 died at home in Kittery Point on Sunday. Infant daughter Alice D. Coulter died at Little Boar's Head, one month and sixteen days old. Laura E. Hanscom died Monday at her home in Bhot, aged 23, wife of Albert Hanscom Jr. and daughter of George A. Ireland, described as a highly respected young lady.

A Concordd led party of young men undertook a brief fishing voyage from Portsmouth Harbor in 1855. Captains Biscoe and Stackpole argued over navigation, fog and calm seas forced a landfall at a Norwegian fisherman Becker’s home, and two Becker sons later sailed back while the rest trudged to town. Participants included Charles Ham, George G. Sanborn, George Todd, H. Tutchins, S. H. Dumas, and W. G. Brooks.
Frank Jones Brewing Co contests Portamouth Brewing Co at Peirce Hall on Monday evening August 12. Dancing after the match with admission 86 Covata-Fiecketa. Fire drill at seven o clock the night of the event.

The Morley Button Company has purchased the former fireroom of the Frank Jones electric plant on Islington Street. Boilers will be fired again and steam supplied to the button company engines via an underground feed line, now being installed between the two buildings.
James Benson of Concord an old Boston and Maine railroad engineer now running the Chicago express from Concord to Boston was in Portsmouth on Sunday. Benson previously served as a fireman on the Concord and Portsmouth branch and his Portsmouth visit marked his first since his initial engineer run over forty years ago.

A thirty foot white sloop named Juanita of Marblehead Mass has been stolen. Port officers have been asked to keep a sharp lookout for her. This city received word of the theft through police channels and naval authorities are alerted.
