Tall Ship Eagle Docks in Portsmouth for Weekend Visit
Hundreds line Piscataqua River to welcome the U S Coast Guard Barque Eagle as Capt Chris Sinnett steers the 295 foot vessel through the channel. Mayor Steve Marchand and U S Rep Jeb Bradley greet the crew during a brief ceremony at State Pier. Free tours run 1 to 6 p m Friday and 1 to 8 p m Sunday with free parking at Bethel Assembly of God Church and Albacore Park. The ship, built in Hamburg in 1936, has ties to WWII training and is based in New London Conn as a Coast Guard training vessel.

Court Street Closure for Sewer and Street Work Begins
Portsmouth officials announce a street and sewer project starting August 21 on Court Street from Pleasant to Marcy, with daytime closures and parking bans from Washington to Hancock. The $1.5 million project, funded in part by a $225,000 state grant, will be carried out by CMA Engineers and Gove Construction in two phases.

PSNH Fire Caused by Ash From Wood-Energy Upgrade
Eight firefighters were burned in a July 25 PSNH fire at the Gosling Road Schiller Station. The blaze happened in new equipment added to a $70 million wood-to-energy upgrade. officials said the connected boiler had not been used for two days and only coal had been burned previously. PSNH spokesman Ian Wilson said the cause was under inquiry.
