Rye family faces charges over underage drinking party

A Rye couple and their 18 year old daughter were arrested at 14 Ham Lane and charged with facilitating a party where underage drinking or drug use occurred. They are set to appear in Portsmouth District Court on Aug 15. The case cites House Bill 464 and state penalties for furnishing alcohol to minors. Police say a lesser charge was pursued to avoid jail time.

Archaeologist questions graves feared to be buried in cemetery site

Portsmouth archaeologist Kathleen Wheeler counts at least 61 individual graves and three mass burial sites in a St Augustin Catholic Cemetery section slated for 12 acre subdivision burial. Diocese lawyer Brad Cook says remains were exhumed and moved in the 1960s or 70s based on firm studies and memories, while Wheeler disputes that finding.
