Rampaging flood waters after 14 inches of rain in central Texas killed 15 people and forced hundreds from their homes. Kerrville officer Bill Fackelman reported ongoing deaths and missing persons as damage estimates rose. The scene stretched across Bandera and surrounding areas with continuing emergency alerts.
Richard Obenshain, 42, Virginia GOP Senate nominee, died in a fiery Piper Seneca crash near Richmond. Two others aboard were killed as the aircraft went down in woods near Chesterfield County airport late Wednesday.
NRC staff in Washington released a list of nine leading candidates to host a Seabrook like plant. A third blast killed the wounded worker. An anonymous caller claimed Palestinian radicals were responsible. The building houses the PLO Arab League and Franco Arab Chamber of Commerce offices.
Seabrook residents ask for an extra town meeting article to challenge the sale of tax sale land to Public Service Co. They contend authorization at a special meeting Jan 11, 1969 violated state law requiring an annual meeting. The petition seeks rescission of actions and recovery of lands, with counsel referred for comment.
In Seabrook residents petition to remove gate and bars on Rocks Road near the nuclear plant claiming legal violation. Petition presented to selectmen, referred to town counsel, signed by 85 residents led by Charles Littlefield of River Street.
Seabrook selectmen voted against a three week extension of town water use for Yankee Greyhound race track sprinkling. James C. Falconer Eric Small opposed while Clyde O. Brown supported. Falconer accused the track of bypassing the town and using hydrants. He noted the track can use a water truck and other facilities but will not receive town water for outdoor use.
Traffic Safety Commission backs Dudley resolution for joint state agency review of LPG transport rules. Agencies would comment on current regulations and enforcement, with a report and possible recommendations to the Governor's Council.
