Barry Cann of Harrisburg, Pa., is the guest of his parents, Paymaster and Mrs. James E. Cann. The steam cutter of the U. S. S. Vixen is to be fitted with a new boiler while at this station. U.S. N., and Dr. King enjoyed a sail over Lake Winnipesaukee on Thursday. A party of young people from the yard enjoyed a backboard drive and supper at Rye Beach on Thursday evening. Guests at the Pocahontas, Gerrish Island, on Thursday evening plainly heard the music of Reinawali's naval bands at the Shoals, where the band gave a concert on the excursion from this city.

Cresceus and The Abbot will race on August 15 at Brighton Beach during the New York Breeders’ Association meet in Columbus Ohio. The Pythian field day at Hampton Beach drew Knights from Rochester Dover Manchester Nashua Exeter in a large turnout. A large turnout of Portsmouth residents attended a lawn party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. P. W. Reid on Gable road Rye Beach. The event benefited the Rye Congregational church Ladies Aid Society. Ray and Philbrick's orchestra provided music with Ralph S. Parker at the piano among other entertainments. The Reich lawn hosted a comfortable, well lit gathering with hundreds in attendance.

Moonlight Excursion aboard Alice Howard Impresses Passengers
The Portsmouth, Kittery and York steamer Alice Howard carried a large crowd to the Shoals on Thursday evening for a moonlight excursion. The moon was near its apex, the sea smooth, and the air brisk. The Naval band played lengthy music as the boat departed from its wharf around 7:30 PM and returned by midnight.
