An explosion at the Bird mine of Warner Cole makers in Tittenville Ohio trapped an undetermined number of workers. Ten were brought out seriously burned and two of the injured were expected to die. The mine normally employs 150 men but only about twenty were in the workings at the time.

Fire destroys Macomber racing land in Framingham
In Framingham Mass Aug 1 a blaze wiped out the $150 000 race land residentials and stables of John A Macomber. The fire started in new mown hay in the loft. Seven racing horses were driven to safety and one horse is believed lost in the flames. A few days ago other racers were sent to Saratoga Springs for races and Macomber was to return from there early today.
