Dakota Bob Visits Boston on Transcontinental Walk Tale

A smooth faced man named Dakota Bob, wearing a large sombrero and many medals, visits Boston en route to Portland. He claims a cross country walk from Portland Maine to Portland Oregon with a goal of $8000, walking mainly at night to escape heat, recording autographs of officials and celebrities, and recounting adventures from mining to Indian wars.

Clinton to Dedicate Magnificent Library Building

A gala on August 16 in Clinton marks the deification of the library built by William W. Brown of Portland. About twenty will travel by special car to present the deed, books, a $5,000 check, and a five year insurance policy. An address by Hamilton Mabie will follow a banquet and music, with the day ending at an old home near the village.

East End Yacht Club dredging and railway planned

The East End Yacht club began major improvements with the Globe steam dredge widening a channel from the black spar buoy off Pomeroy's rock to the club pier. A small railroad will haul out and repair yachts, with winter storage and oversight, plus a building for steam and naptha launches. Public boating services and boatmen will be available year round for outings.

Woodfords Notes On Roses And Local Events

South Portland Notes on Art, Picnics, and School Plans

A Thomas I O Neil of Summer Street completed a four by six foot beach scene titled a beautiful painting at the Cape Casino. South Portland Baptist society plans their annual Underwood Spring picnic next Tuesday with special cars from Inn Street at 915. A special South Portland School Board meeting discussed raising and repairing several buildings, inviting bids to estimate costs before aldermen decide on work. Miss Grace A Tarbox was elected principal of Cash's Corner school. Various residents from Roxbury and Newburyport are visiting Willard or staying at the Barbour home on Beach Street.

Westbrook Power House Under Construction at Mallison Falls

Progress on the Mallison Falls Power Co project in Westbrook includes a brick power house 60 by 84 feet with 24 foot walls. A dam and canal are being built to supply water power for mills and the Westbrook Windham Naples railway, with completion aimed for early November.

Tennessee man murdered near Confederate home lane

Nashville July 22 near the Confederate soldiers home at Hermitage Davidson county the well known Alex Donelson was assassinated by an unknown party while en route home he was shot in a lane and his body lay nearby as residents heard the shots and found him dead.

Rescue of Little Isidore Segal on Peaks Island

On Peaks Island a three year old boy, Isidore Segal, nearly drowned after falling into a 15 to 16 foot well behind the Peaks Island house. Passerby John Mullen rescued him by sliding down the pipe and pulling him out, leaving the child frightened but unharmed except for a small scar.
