Wells to Have Water Supply for Town Fire and Drink
Wells, Me January 30 The town hall meeting voted unanimously to supply water for fire and drinking use. A contract was made with the Mousami company of Kennebunk for thirty hydrants at $1000 per year. Service will extend from Kennebunk to the York line about twelve miles. Nearly 100 summer cottage owners welcome the action.

Dominican government takes control of San Domingo customs
United States Minister Powell reports from Port Au Prince that the Dominican government has assumed full possession of San Domingo’s customs and revenues, annulled the Santo Domingo Improvement Company contract, and appointed a commission to settle the foreign debt with funds deposited for that purpose. He adds that the Dominican Congress has voted a credit to send commissioners to Europe.

Pupils Deposit at Portland Savings Bank
Scholors from North Grammar and Primary schools visited Portland Savings Bank to make deposits. About forty pupils toured the bank, with around twenty making their first deposits. Total deposits credited to these scholars exceed $950, most of it in Portland Savings Bank. One pupil earned $205 from selling newspapers and other chores.
