The ice is ten inches thick and clear water the finest in years. The season is late and labor shortage is the main trouble. Wagons are paid two a day and two weeks of steady work are needed to fit the houses each holding 26 000 to 50 000 tone.
Hem Dumont a 16 year old youth son of Joseph Dumont reportedly fell or leaped from a third floor window at 6 White's Wharf in Biddeford during the night. He was found unconscious on the ice below with head injuries and bruising and was alive but unconscious early this afternoon. the 235 foot drop suggests possible fatal injury.
