The marine department of the Boston Chamber of Commerce announced the wreck at St Marys Newfoundland was once thought to be the Norwegian steamer Parran. Parran had left Baltimore January 5 and was reported missing reaching Sydney, Nova Scotia, but later evidence showed the Parran did not arrive there and is not the wreck.
Captain Dawe of the Glencoe reports passing the St Mary's bay wreck site about one o'clock p m the day of the incident while en route from Halifax to St Johns. He says Gull Island location lies twelve miles off the Glencoe's course and identifies the unknown steamer as not the Glencoe.
Captain Dawe says the last vessel steered coins to mate Aspe Hace toward Glenroe as wreckage lies in a bay with a strong current. A blinding snow storm hampered sighting while Magistrate Hogan reports the ship was an oil tanker of about 1100 tons ashore at high speed.
From Et Jenna January 15 mid night the latest advices dispute earlier theories about the wreck near St Marys Bay. Turbulent seas prevent launches and beach approaches though wreckage and bodies are sighted as the ship breaks up. The colonial cruiser Fiona remains off the scene with Ingraham to follow. divers may go down if conditions allow.

From the Boer headquarters near Ladysmith a report describes wagons northbound and Boers burning public buildings after a repulse at Ladysmith. British forces drove Boers from Hesters Kop while Pretoria commandos held positions and suffered six killed and six wounded trying to storm a fort. The dispatches also note conflicting signals about Gen Warren crossing the Tugela and Buller’s reverses amid a broader South Africa campaign.
Col William J Bryan and Yale president Arthur T Hadley were interviewed in St. Louis about ostracizing trust magnates. They agreed that social recognition should be denied to anyone in a trust or enterprise harmful to the public welfare and that the public should be educated to see the evils in the trust system.
Mr Robert Ingalls senior partner of Ingalls Bros bottlers is critically ill at his High street home. Confined to his house for four or five weeks his condition grew dangerous last evening with reports he could live only a few hours. He has long been a prominent city businessman and many friends are pained by his illness.

No further opposition to Elmer Maxwell’s removal to Portland for trial was reported. C N Skinner, counsel for Maxwell, said tonight the plan proceeds. Maxwell will be taken Wednesday from St. John New Brunswick. Capt George Battlay’s death on the schooner J B Van Dusen is the case involved.

He asks referral to a commissioner and permission to take testimony. A related brief in the Sampson Cervera case is filed. Dr Clark heads for the Orient on a Christian Endeavor mission, with a farewell at Tremont Temple.
New York January 15 The Times reports Mason the comic opera singer signed papers yesterday in a divorce suit against her husband actor Jack Mason. A Massachusetts society figure is said to figure in the complaint replacing a stress as previously reported.
