The Dominion steamer Domin ion of the Dominion line sailed for Liverpool with 16 saloon 7 intermediate and 11 steering passengers and full cargo. Community events include the Oakdale neighborhood party at Riverton Monday January 11th, annual J A K meeting January 14 1901, and drug trade championship boxing at Pine's alleys. Police weekly clam chowder at the station, Portland past chancellors meeting January 14, wheel club dinner, Gorham's Corner rowdies and liquor sheriffs, and Masons and IOOF lodge initiations scheduled. The Messiah Church Ladies Aid meet January 00 Congress street.
Mr H N Pinkham attended the New England Fire Insurance Exchange meeting in Boston. Henry J Conley Req has returned after ten days in Boston. Maurice Pillsbury of Fryeburg will steward Clift Cottage after eight years in New York hotels. Rev Edwin P Wilson to conduct funeral services for Abper Stockin, Maine native and Bowdoin graduate. First Lt Emery notes modern methods in sleigh design by F O Halley Carriage Co with affordable sleighs and orders.
Z. A. Gilbert writes to the Maine Farmer replying to Secretary McKeen's answer and reiterating charges of unlawful and improper use of institute funds. He cites specific expenditures, questions oversight, and asserts proof exists, urging a thorough investigation into attestations and payments to Gowell Moody and dairy premiums.
Two ocean liners arrived with limited cargo and passengers. Hoenes Ayrean of Allan Line carried cattle and 48 passengers while Lady Armstrong of Hamburg-American brought no cargo. Tugboats ferried scows to emptying grounds after rough seas and steamers updated harbor moves.
Captain George C Hudson died in Fall River Massachusetts on January 4 after a four day pneumonia illness. A Civil War veteran he served three years in the Sd Maine volunteers rising from sergeant to captain for gallantry. He returned to Math Maine then moved to Fall River where he was highly regarded by Post 46. He leaves a widow and two daughters Mrs Carns of Slaterville New York and a Fall River school teacher wife Ketelle Boyden of Perry Maine.
The next edition of the open congress will be held in the vestry of the Church of Messiah next Friday evening January 18 at 7. The topic: Resolved that the decline in church attendance and influence is due to extravagance and remediable causes. The question was not stated in fall when announced by Pastor Mr Atwood yesterday morning.
