Hon. James W. Bradbury, former U.S. Senator and longtime Augusta resident, aged around 80, has been in declining health for weeks and is near death. Local officials report his condition as critical with no immediate improvement expected.
Washington December 21 reports show many senators and representatives visiting President McKinley to exchange greetings before holidays. Family guests include Grace and Sarah Duncan nieces, and Abner McKinley with his wife. The White House will be quiet due to Mrs McKinley's health as gift parcels arrive from Rhode Island and elsewhere.

Sandy Hook New Jersey December 21 after a continuous four hour trial of the Miller conveyor for coaling ships at sea the battleship Massachusetts and the collier Maroauds which left the navy yard on Wednesday morning anchored tonight in Sandy Hook bay the trial was very successful with about eighty tons transferred in four hours without accident

A committee will meet January 4 to assess settlement prospects among transcontinental carriers.
Nellie Jordoff a sevenyearold girl was kidnapped on Tenny street and taken to Pawtucket at 4 PM. The mother, Merc Lambert, who had left custody years ago, arranged the abduction via her grandmother Mrs Jordolf who cared for the child. Police say the matter is unresolved as authorities pursue leads.
London reports Sir Thomas Lipton has been unanimously elected rear commodore of the Royal Ulster Yacht club on December 21, with the vote reflecting strong support from club members and officials.
Congressman Charles A. Boutelle of Bangor Maine, chair of the national naval efforts committee, was taken ill this afternoon at Young's hotel in Boston and was carried to his room unconscious. He was noted as being in the city for committee duties.
