A Grand Trunk Lewiston local derailed two miles before Danville Junction after a frost brittle rail broke off at the end. Ten or more injured, none fatally, with victims taken to Lewiston Hospital. several Portland residents among the injured.

Train No. 71 wrecks in Maine derailment on embankment

A Grand Trunk line train No. 71 derailed after a broken rail near Lewiston, sending two cars down a 30 foot embankment. Eighteen aboard, ten injured, none seriously, with a long list of victims including Williams, Ring, Foster, Jones, Smith, Burnham, Fickett, Richards, Wass, Adams, Howe, and Trefethen. The locomotive remained on track. officials and hospital transport followed.
