Underwood is in Auburn Maine defended by George B McCann who argued blackmail. Gov Powers and council held a brief session before heading to Bangor for Old Home Week.
In Saco on August 5 two strangers visited Dr Dennett's drug store and bought a small item. They paid five dollars but said they needed a dime for transit and attempted a return. Clerk Traynor later found eight dollars missing. Police jailed the suspects at a wharf camp for morning questioning.
Reports from Colon Colombia detail a prolonged clash as rebels, believed 2000 to 8000 strong, occupied Corazo near Panama. Government forces eventually gained the field after July battles, but surrender came amid rumors of treachery and a $150,000 payoff.
Rev Dr Simpson of the Christian Alliance reports that Alliance missionaries in China have reached St Petersburg. He will cable $3000 to them tomorrow from Old Orchard, Aug 8.
