Jack Sturman 82 of Tulia Texas died Friday June 25 2004 at his home He was born May 21 1922 in Elida to John Floyd and Ruby Bell Sturman He married Wanda Haislip in Portales on December 24 1950 They moved to Tulia in 1951 owned J Gee Department Store for 50 years He served in the US Army forming the Ordnance Maintenance Battalion of the 12th Armored Division He earned the Croix de Guerre and a letter from President Truman Survivors include son Craig Sturman daughter Jeffie Hamar two brothers and two sisters and two grandchildren Burial is in Rose Hill Cemetery Tulia Memorials to First Baptist Church Scholarship Fund. Clovis Man Indicted on Kidnapping and Sex Charges
A Roosevelt County grand jury indicted Armando Galvan, 46, on kidnapping three counts of criminal sexual penetration and assault with intent to commit a violent felony. He allegedly forced an 18-year-old pregnant woman to have sex at three locations near Portales cemetery in the early hours of June 4. Galvan was arrested June 8 in Clovis and held on a $100,000 bond. he has been a registered sex offender in New Mexico since June 2003.
