Heritage Days Celebrates Roosevelt County History at City Park
The 30th annual Heritage Days in Portales featured a parade from Avenue O to City Park, a car show with 54 entries, concerts, vendors, and prizes honoring Bennie and Donna Victor as Pioneers of the Year. Portales Leads State in Water Conservation Projects
Portales officials say the city leads the state in water conservation with a 27 million Wastewater Treatment Plant and Reuse Center. Public Works Director John DeSha notes the project will extend the well field life by about four years and serve parks cemeteries and schools while supplying bulk water to construction firms. Mayor Sharon King calls it a game changer and a key step toward solv ing water problems alongside other conservation efforts and new wells.
