A 52 year old Clovis man Ramon Rollings Jr died after a Friday early morning altercation at the Clovis Apartments on Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard. Police say Rollings suffered head injuries and died at Plains Regional Medical Center after being released from the scene. A second stabbing victim with a head wound arrived at the hospital soon after but investigators have not linked the cases. No arrests have been made and the DA says the case is active. The year has seen multiple local homicides with no charges in Perez or the Portales killings thus far.
About 30 cars passed through the Safer New Mexico Now clinic in the Hobby Lobby parking lot Friday afternoon. Twenty four of the cars showed likely faulty seats while four of five seats are used incorrectly. A Clovis mother, Lisa Stansell, expressed caution after personal losses from car accidents and emphasized safety for her children. The event was one of about 60 clinics held annually by Safety New Mexico Now, a traffic safety nonprofit based in Albuquerque, after a four day technician training. The trained group included 23 technicians collaborating with a hospital clinic.

The Roosevelt County Extension Program will not fill its home economist post due to funding gaps. The vacancy arose after Connie Moyers retired in January, with a $1.3 million deficit in 2015 16 and funding needs exceeding available resources. Bruce Hinrichs said options include keeping the ag and 4 H agents without the home economist or shifting funds to a program assistant or losing the 4 H position.
