Severe storm hits Portales area with hail and outages
A strong storm swept through Roosevelt and Curry counties causing tornado sirens, power outages, road closures, and roof damage in Portales and surrounding communities. No injuries were reported. power was restored by about 11:15 p.m. after outages lasting over two hours. Street flooding and 60 mph winds were noted with several roofs torn and emergency services disrupted briefly.
